OK, I'll take it over. Was already planning to, would use a 100% save, stripped of, well, the saves, to get the endings pinned down first.

I will use three points of reference for each translation.

My first point of reference, surprisingly, is a regular copy of Puyo Puyo Tetris. We have plenty of Arle and Satan speaking in that, with a very accurate translation, and can get any mannerisms down from that.

My second point of reference is to copy the dialogue into Google Translate. This gives an idea of what is meant to be being said.

My third point of reference is your translation outright.

And I noticed you mention having issues with image editing. I have decrypted images of every Chapter 1 and 2 image in the game. Any image editing software worth it's salt can deal with them after that, and I can OCR the text itself.

Oh, Danny Boy...

OCR is your friend.

Every single one of the opening screens has a completely redundant blank text box. Use http://ocr.space with the image, after using a program to global fill the transparent layer in any colour other than white on the more pesky ones, and you can get a plain Japanese text string which CAN be translated.

Valentine, be careful with the mannerisms from Puyo Puyo Tetris. Sweetsprite makes our heroine seem a bit more mature, but Satin remains unchanged.

I know the difference. It's mainly used for dialect quirks, since using Puyo Puyo Fever... would not work out.

And I have to say, for the record, that I almost want to do a straw poll over, when the final build of version 3 comes out, scrapping those images entirely from the game and replacing it with a wall of text, because some of the breaks are poorly managed, and I could deal with some very odd sentence and paragraph structure. And that's even before we hit Google Translate.

NO WALLS OF TEXT! Sorry but if you scrap the images, you are doing a disservice to the translation. I personally HATE walls of text. I would not accept a translation that got rid of the images that play out.

I would say its entirely up to you. If its just the opening images, which are a whole lot of nothing, then I see no problem with just dumpingt he info in a wall of text and letting us move on.

You're doing everyone who wants to play the game in english a service by translating it when we can't, won't or just aren't able to ourselves! Go crazy with it!

Well, at least I'm leaving the translation in much more capable hands, by the sounds of it. Never really concerned myself with the source material, beyond looking up the wiki articles of the characters and basic stuff like this. Seems like fans of the source material could appreciate your efforts a lot more, I'm also looking forward to it. Do you plan on making a new thread for it or should I update the front page accordingly? Don't know if you can "transfer ownership" of a thread or anything like that. Needless to say, I'll credit you and all that.

I'll see to it that I upload what the remaining stuff until September so that you'll have an easier time with the final version. Would it matter to you if I just send you the translation for the new maps or should I see if I can reconcile it with the game?

Hey, I recently picked up this game (version 2.11 from sukebei) and noticed a problem with this translation - the game downgraded to version 1.0 after applying it. I've noticed it only after the final boss of chapter 1 (unholy tree) - game end message. After checking the untranslated version again it had way more content (for example I could access second gallery etc). Is this a problem with the game version I'm using, or the translation patch or did I apply it incorrectly somehow?

So the thing about game updates is that they constantly overwrite a ton of files with each update. This means that in order to apply a translation to a new version, a lot of work has to be redone, which is why it wasn't topped off for each individual update. IIRC, DanielWain did an translation for the first chapter, and then another for the second chapter, but they're separate things. So it's currently not possible to play through the first and second parts with one installation, and AFAIK, no one has done the third yet.

Okay, I understand the problem now. That being said however you mentioned that there is a separate translation for the second chapter. Is it not here (not in the first post)? If this is the translation for the second chapter however it should not break my game though (since I was using ver 2.11)

I'm still working on the chapter, since a bunch of gamebreaking errors happened while attempting to carry over stuff from the translation of chapter 1. By September I should hopefully have it done and ValentineMeikin wants to take over the project at that point. Should be an overall improvement, since I'm pretty busy with my job at the moment.

There is one annoyance I've found, and that's in how the gallery system works. There are actually TWO versions of every ending, a fully featured one, including the dialogue beforehand, and the version in the gallery, which means a mild case of translating twice.

And I can understand now why you got errors. I need to look into a way to run two parallel copies of RPG Maker MV, so I can have your translated scripts and the almost untouched 3.0.1 script next to me. Where something other than text itself doesn't agree, that's why an error happens.

The gallery uses the same text, it's just a copy-paste fiesta from a certain point onward, if I'm not mistaken, not actually translating all over again, luckily. You just have to find the first line and then copy-paste line for line.

Yeah, it's a pretty big bother, I'd really suggest the winmerge option, it helped me quite a bit, so far. Though you'd need an untranslated version of an older edition to use it, not the translated one. That's where the problems come in, you have to be very precise about what you copy-paste, if even one character of the new version gets removed or changed, by what was in the previous version, it can crash this game. With no survivors.

How I do it involves having two copies, one initially untranslated. Version 1 is run in the background, while the editing version is run in RPG Maker MV. When doing duplicate work, You keep a copy of the text, not the scripting, in a document to one side if you need to, ensuring you have the FIRST line, in Japanese, kept available.

You search for that line, and start working from there. Once an ending is fully translated, add the data files to Version 1, and it should work perfectly every time.

When V3.1.0 comes around, you DON'T update Version 1 yet. You put your old data files into that, then edit v3.1.0, using the fact you can see your translation in situ. Yes, it's a bit slower, but it also doesn't lose you hours of progress. Winmerge is nice, but prone to GIGO.

OK, Update on the translation...

Hopefully, v3.1.2 will be the last patch for a bit. The patch requires practically all the 'data' folder gets redone every time, which means I lose everything so far. I am working on writing out everything done so far so I can start on 3.1.2. If there's another update this week...
I will not give my opinion, but it will be impolite.

Well, good news so far.

I kept a backup of one of my key translation pieces, and might end up replacing totally the opening segment with my own material, just because I effectively have to write very loose 'subtitles', and it's easier to just use the new background image and a title scroll.

I will state this.
Two items will be pemanently and irrecoverably removed from my patched version's version of Arle's house. Namely the Benefits Book and the 'event' to view the first half of the opening again, the latter because it's pointless. I may replace it with something else in the future.
I will also, over time, remove all capability to play the game in Tester Mode, including removing the additional Arle that mode uses.
This is not to make the game harder. It's hard enough. This is because personally I feel it's cheating to even use the book.

For that reason, do NOT use the Benefits Passwords on one of my translated copies. You might not get what you expect.
